Loomii vs NGL: which anonymous Q&A app should you use?

By the Loomii team · Reviewed 10 October 2026

Loomii and NGL both give you an anonymous link for your story. Choose Loomii if you want more games (Rate me, Crush, Confession, Honest opinion, Q&A and a quiz), festival story templates and hints that only use real data; NGL is the better-known original with a simpler single-prompt approach.

The same core idea

Both apps work the same way at heart: you get a personal link, post it on your Instagram, Snapchat or WhatsApp story, and friends send messages without logging in or showing their name. You read the messages in the app and can answer them on your story.

Side-by-side

Here’s how Loomii approaches each area. Other apps change their features and prices often, so check NGL’s current store listing for the latest on its side.

  • Link: Loomii gives you loomii.link/yourname, plus a separate link for each game.
  • Games: Loomii has Ask me anything, Rate me, Q&A, Crush, Confession and Honest opinion, plus a free “How well do you know me?” quiz with a scoreboard.
  • Story design: Loomii includes dozens of story templates, with festival packs for Indian festivals.
  • Safety: a bullying-word filter on by default, hidden words, block, report and pause.
  • Honesty: messages from people are always from people; Loomii-written questions are labelled “Special Daily” and can be turned off.
  • Hints: real signals only (app, device type, rough area), never a name or IP; free if there’s nothing to show.
  • Price: free to use; optional coins (100 free to start) and short Unlimited passes through Google Play — no auto-renewing subscription.
  • Platforms: Loomii’s app is on Android; anyone can send from any browser.

Replying and story design

Answering messages on your story is where these apps really differ in feel. In Loomii, tapping Reply on a message opens a story editor with the question already on a card. You pick a background — plain colours, photos from your gallery, or templates for festivals like Diwali, Holi, Navratri, Eid and Christmas — and share straight to Instagram, Snapchat or WhatsApp. The sender is never shown on the card.

Because each game has its own look (Rate me, Crush, Confession and so on), your answer stories don’t all look the same, which keeps your followers tapping through.

Privacy and data

Neither you nor the people messaging you should have to hand over much data to play a story game. Loomii doesn’t ask for a phone number, email address or contacts. Your birthday (month and year) is only used for the age check and stored as a one-way hash for account recovery. Senders are identified only by scrambled safety codes used for blocking, never shown to anyone. You can export a copy of your data or delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy & safety.

For any app you’re considering, read the privacy policy’s “what we collect” section before posting its link — it takes two minutes and tells you a lot.

How Loomii’s pricing works

Loomii is free to use: claiming your link, sharing it, reading every message, the Ask me anything game and the quiz cost nothing. Optional extras use coins:

  • New accounts get 100 free coins.
  • Extra games (Rate me, Q&A, Crush, Confession, Honest opinion) unlock with coins and stay unlocked.
  • Hints on a message cost 20 coins — and are free if there’s nothing to show.
  • Premium story templates can be unlocked individually.
  • Coin packs and short Unlimited passes (one week or one month) are one-time purchases through Google Play. They don’t renew automatically.
  • You can earn free coins by inviting friends.

Whatever app you use, check whether a “premium” plan renews automatically before you buy — and cancel from Google Play’s Subscriptions page if it does.

Safety in detail

Both apps are anonymous, so the safety tools are what separate a fun experience from a stressful one. In Loomii:

  • A mean-word filter is on by default and moves bullying messages to a Hidden folder.
  • You can add your own hidden words (names, your school, anything you don’t want to see).
  • Report and block are on every message; blocking stops that sender reaching you.
  • Pause new messages stops everything instantly.
  • Loomii is for ages 13+, and child-safety reports are reviewed first.

Choose Loomii if…

  • You get bored of one prompt and want to switch games during the week.
  • You care how your story looks — festival and seasonal templates matter to you.
  • You want a quiz that ranks your friends.
  • You want hints you can trust, and no paid subscription.
  • You’re on Android.

NGL might suit you if…

  • You’re on iPhone and want an app (Loomii’s app is Android-only for now).
  • You only want one simple prompt and nothing else.
  • Your friends already use it and you don’t want to switch.

Switching from NGL to Loomii

  1. Install Loomii from Google Play and pick a username (ideally the same handle your friends know).
  2. Choose your first game — Rate me is a good opener.
  3. Replace the old link in your Instagram bio with your Loomii link.
  4. Post a story with the Link sticker: “New link, same vibe — ask me anything 👀”.
